In XIX − XX century the Danish soccer players thought out the new kind of football instead of football in the winter time. Handball is played with hands; each team consists of 6 players and goalkeeper. The roots of handball come back in the Middle Ages: the mentions of “almaparents” of this sport are old games with ball and hand. These mentions we can find in “Odissey” of Gomer and in the works of the Roman physician Galena. The date of the registration of the game with name “handball” as sport game is considered to be 1898.[sc name="adsense"]
The recognition of handball by the international sport in 1926 gave impetus for the development of the game in a number of countries.
Handball 7х7 was returned to the Olympic program only in 1972 to XX Olympic Games in Munich. The competitions were held in closed rooms, the men’s teams took part. The winners were the Yugoslavians. The female handball was added in the program of XXI Olympic Games in 1976 in Montreal for the first time. The brilliant action of the female team in Montreal, which is fixed by the capture of the gold medals at the Olympics consolidated the positions of our Soviet school game on the international arena. The first-Union competitions of the mounted men and women teams of cities in the USSR were Handball 11х11 in Riga, in 1955. Among women the winners were students from Kiev (the Ukraine), among men – the Rigans. It was obvious that the game loses its positions in the country and abroad. The Federation shall decide on the suspension of the implementation of the championships after the USSR 11х11 handball. By 1962 the USSR championship handball was played in format 7х7.
On the international arena the men’s national team of country came in 1960, and female – in 1962. The first big successes are our mounted arrived after a half tens of years. The female winner for the World Championship was in 1982 (Hungary), 1986 (Holland), 1990 (South Korea).
After the inclusion of Handball in the program of the Olympic Games its popularity in the world has grown fierce. The great changes bring changes in the rules of the game, down by the International Federation.
